Pupils have three 45 minute lessons a week and during that time pupils have supplementary sessions with the language assistant who helps them with their speaking skills and with any areas that require support. In lessons, pupils learn a broad range of vocabulary, structures and tenses to allow them to express themselves confidently in both spoken and written form whilst being able to understand the language too. They also work on the different skills required for the GCSE which is now all exam based. The exam is divided into 4 parts: speaking, listening, reading and writing which are all weighted at 25%.
The department also gets involved in a number of Co-curricular activities which include an exchange programme with a school in Hagen Germany, a Key Stage 3 trip to the Rheinland, European Languages Day, a trip to a German restaurant in Chorley and the Christmas markets trip.
