A team of 3 lower sixth chemists - Nicola Judah, Ritu Bhattacharyya and Georgia Eddleston took part in the Schools’ Analyst Competition at Lancaster University. The students competed against 15 other schools and had to work as a team to solve a range of demanding experimental tasks. One of the tasks was to synthesise gold nanoparticles which they used to isolate an impurity in a protein. They then used their mathematical skills to calculate the percentage of the impurity in the protein. It was a challenging and rewarding experience for the students and they performed extremely well under pressure.
