On Monday 30th. April both the Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry groups participated in a workshop on spectroscopic analysis, presented by the Royal Society of Chemistry, with assistance from two Medicinal Chemistry degree undergraduates from the University of Manchester.
They were synthesising paracetamol, in groups, and then analysing the composition of their product, using a variety of spectroscopic techniques. This enabled the groups to determine how pure their sample was.
They were able to use both familiar methods as well as techniques that they had not used before. All the students really enjoyed the experience as well as getting in some valuable revision!
